Now accepting applications for the Environmental Health Nursing Writers' Retreat
Are you a nurse interested in environmental health? Do you wish there was more environmental health information for nurses? Have you always wanted to write an article about an environmental health issue you are concerned about? The Environmental Health Education Center at the University of Maryland School of Nursing is sponsoring two “writers’ retreats” for nurses who would like to write an article about an environmental health issue. This is an opportunity to provide nurses like you with the support you will need to get an article published.
Choose from two times and locations: June 12-16 in Baltimore, MD or June 26-30 in Marin Headland, CA (San Francisco area).

National Library of Medicine Resource Update/TOXMAP: New Health Data, Roads
TOXMAP now contains updated cancer and other mortality data. TOXMAP also now shows more detailed roads at a variety of map scales. (Roads and other reference data can be hidden from maps via the "Other Data" subtab.)
Other recent changes include:
* Facility details include latitude/longitude and links to Google Maps * Redesigned Search and Set Region pages * Added "go to" page number for search results * Added aggregate release data values in downloadable TRI facility data * Added HTML Site Map * Added Income 2003 demographic layer * Added ability to link directly to site details (all map types)
From the NLM website: "TOXMAP is a Geographic Information System (GIS) from the Division of Specialized Information Services of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) that uses maps of the United States to help users visually explore data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Superfund Program."

Paid summer internships in Environmental Health: the U.S. Public Health Service COSTEP Program
The Indian Health Service employs 20-30 Environmental Health interns each year through the US Public Health Service Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training Extern Program (JrCOSTEP). Assignments are available throughout the year, but most are filled in the summer. COSTEP's are assigned to a preceptor at a field location and do Environmental Health work typical of an IHS Sanitarian. COSTEP's are Commissioned Officers for the summer and earn approximately $2000.00 a month as an Ensign in the PHS.

EPA Webinar: Evaluating Fish Consumption Guidelines: A Qualitative and Quantitative Approach for High Risk Ethnic Groups: April 15
The Council for Regulatory Environmental Modeling (CREM) and EPA's Region 2 would like to invite you to join the 9th of a series of regional seminars on environmental models and their use in regional decision-making. This presentation will discuss the qualitative and quantitative foundation for fish consumption guidelines and their effectiveness protecting high risk ethnic groups such as Asians who consume fish frequently.
Copies of presentation materials (slides) will be posted in advance on EPA's Environmental Science Connector. External users can register for access at http://portal.epa.gov. EPA users can login using LAN IDs and passwords. The seminar will also be hosted as a web-conference on the EPA Portal: http://hawkeye.epa.gov/workspaces.
