The Children's Safe Product Act is now law in Washington state!
On April 1st, Washington's Governor Gregoire signed the Children's Safe Products Act into law, making Washington the nation's leader in keeping toxic chemicals out of toys. Despite massive pressure from the toy industry to veto the bill, Governor Gregoire responded to the thousands of parents and other concerned Washingtonians who asked her to sign the legislation.
House sponsor Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson advocated fiercely for the bill, passed unanimously by the House of Representatives. Senate sponsor Sen. Debbie Regala and Sen. Phil Rockefeller shepherded the legislation, winning a vote just in time to meet the statutory deadline for final passage.
Other legislators that made invaluable contributions include Rep. Zack Hudgins, Rep. Tom Campbell, Rep. Ross Hunter, Rep. Bob Sump, Rep. Dan Newhouse, Rep. Hans Dunshee, House Speaker Frank Chopp, Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, Sen. Jim Kastama, Sen. Jim Hargrove, and Sen. Dan Swecker.

CDC's National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program: Your participation requested!
APHA is an active national partner with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program. The mission of the Tracking Program is to provide information communities can use to improve their health. This information will come from a national Environmental Public Health Tracking Network that integrates health data and environmental data. The Network will be launched this September.
CDC will soon begin the next phase of testing the design of the Tracking Network and would like to include input from public health professionals, like you. We are asking for your participation in a testing method called 'card sorting.' Card sorting is used to ascertain users' ideas on navigation and functionality of the website. The card sort takes about an hour to complete and can be done online.
If you are interested in participating in the card sort, please send an email to Anne Venner at avenner@cdc.gov by Monday, March 31st. She will then pass your email address along to User Insights, the company that is conducting the card sort. Your email address will only be used for the purpose of this specific card sort, and will not be sold. The link to the card sort and instructions will be sent out next week.
Please contact Anne Venner at avenner@cdc.gov or 770-488-3839, with any questions about the card sort.
Thanks in advance for your participation.
